Family Background of Actress Sadhna
Sadhana Shivdasini was born on 2 September 1941 in Karachi, British India (now in Pakistan) to a Sindhi-Hindu family. Her father was Shivram Shivdasini and mother was Lali Devi. Her father’s elder brother was Hari Shivdasini, whose daughter is actress Babita, who is also the mother of Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor.
After the partition, her entire family came to Bombay (now Mumbai). Sadhana did her schooling in Mumbai and graduated from Jai Hind College. During her college days, Sadhana used to participate in many plays and she developed a passion for acting from there.
How did Sadhana get her first film?
Once some people from the film industry came to Sadhana’s college who were looking for girls to dance in the background of songs for their films. Sadhana was also selected among those girls and she got her first chance as a background dancer in the film Shree 420 (1955).
After this, a Sindhi filmmaker was making a film on the Indo-Pak partition and offered Sadhana the role of the lead actress’ younger sister. Sadhana’s first film as an actress was Abana (1958) for which Sadhana received just Rs 1 as salary. After this, Sadhana’s popularity increased and she started getting back to back films.

In her career, Sadhana worked as a lead actress in many films like ‘Who was she’, ‘Mera Saaya’, ‘Ek Phool Do Mali’, ‘Waqt’, ‘Love in Shimla’, ‘Aap Aaye Bahar Aayi’, ‘Aarzoo’, ‘Asli-Nakli’, ‘Mere Mehboob’, ‘Ek Musafir Ek Haseena’, ‘Anita’, ‘Inteqam’. Her famous songs include songs like ‘Lag Ja Gale’, ‘Kaun Aaya’, ‘Tu Jahan Jahan Chalega’, ‘Jhumka Gira Re’, ‘Mera Man Yaad Karta Hai’, ‘Yeh Parda Hata Do Zara Mukhada Dikha Do’.
Why did Babita curse Sadhna?
When Babita entered the film industry, she met Randhir Kapoor. They fell in love and this news reached Raj Kapoor. Babita wanted to become a big actress like her sister and also wanted to marry Randhir Kapoor. According to media reports, when Raj Kapoor came to know about this, he called Sadhna to meet him and told her that Babita should not dream two dreams at the same time.
If Babita marries Randhir Kapoor, she will have to lose her films because the daughters-in-law of the Kapoor family do not work in films. When Babita came to know about this, she met Sadhna and got angry. In the same report, it was also claimed that Sadhna started convincing Babita like her own child that if she wants to work in films, she should give up the idea of marrying Randhir.
But Babita was angry and she said that you are saying all this considering it a child, it may happen that one day you yearn for children. Although Babita said this in anger, but Sadhna never had children of her own in her life.
How did Sadhna spend her last days?
When Sadhna was at the peak of her career, she suffered from a disease called thyroid. She got it treated in America and again focused on her career. But she had so much work that she did not take care of her health and later due to this, one of her eyes became smaller due to which she started having poor vision.
Later, Sadhana stopped working in films. Her husband Ram Krishna Nayyar had also passed away. It is said that Sadhana had become penniless in her last days and she passed away on 25 December 2015.
